The Lighthouse sits on a NY State park grounds. Within the overall park area they allow dogs on leashes. Within the specific area that you pay to enter to walk up to and into the Lighthouse itself, they restrict dogs to only those that are "service/therapy" dogs. These dogs are not allowed into the actual light house building (museum and shop).

Hi, yes you'll need a car to get there. We did a day trip to montauk from tarrytown. I don't remember seeing any public buses. But the drive is really pretty.
