UPDATE 28/05/25: Nintendo has updated its list of backwards compatible games for the Nintendo Switch 2 and it has removed some of the games that were previously marked as incompatible. There’s now 118 games that have start-up issues, 50 games that have some in-game compatibility issues and 54 games that will be resolved by launch or shortly after.
Nintendo has updated its list of Switch 1 games that will be compatible with the Switch 2 today, 27th May 2025, with a bunch of games needing a free update to run on the new console. Along with these new updates,
Aside from the paid Switch 2 upgrade packs that add extra content and graphical improvements, Nintendo is releasing several free Switch game updates to add a handful of Switch 2-specific features and improve performance on the new console. Third-party game developers will presumably be able to release these kinds of updates as well.
Over 100 games have 'start up issues' on Nintendo Switch 2, but the company is investigating them ahead of launch.
Nintendo's page for the compatibility test for Nintendo Switch games on the Switch 2 was updated on Tuesday. More than 15,000 games have been confirmed as having no issues when playing on the new Switch, but those that haven't been verified will need some additional updates or simply will never work with the Switch 2.
