The couple had just moved into their dream home and were preparing to sell their fixer-upper in Altadena's Janes Village. Fire destroyed both homes.

Five people have died in the Eaton Fire burning northeast of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The identities and circumstances of their deaths have not been disclosed.

A fire broke out Tuesday night in the hills above Altadena near Eaton Canyon, prompting a response from firefighters. The Eaton fire has burned 10,600 acres and prompted evacuations in the area west of the Eaton Canyon Golf Course, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Many residents fled the Altadena and Pasadena area due to the blaze that has consumed more than 10,000 acres with zero containment, according to Lisa Derderian, a city of Pasadena’s information officer. More than 800 people were at the evacuation center, Red Cross volunteers said Wednesday morning.

Firefighters are trying to mitigate the growing fire in Altadena, California, where a senior center is now in flames. Low water pressure and exhausted responders are impacting efforts. CBS News Los Angeles' Jasmine Viel has more.
