On Monday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom released a plan to remove homeless individuals from the street with a new directive for cities, towns and counties to ban tent camping on sidewalks and in parks.

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) on Monday called on hundreds of cities and counties to ban homeless encampments on sidewalks, bike paths, and other public property, increasing pressure on local governments to follow the state‘s lead.

The state is releasing a model ordinance that cities can use as a basis for their own local anti-encampment ordinances.
