Whatever it takes—throwing a hit, winning a battle, driving through opponents to get to the net—you can bet he's willing to do it. That level of engagement is so valuable; it's the kind of thing that could make or break a game.

The Wings selected left wing Carter Bear Friday with the 13th pick overall in the first round. Bear, who suffered a partially torn Achilles tendon that ended his season in March, scored 40 goals in 56 games for Everett (WHL). Bear (6-foot, 180-pounds) is expected to be ready for training camp.
