National Weather Service officials are expecting patchy smoke from Canadian wildfires to move into the Chicago area Friday and a chance of showers and thunderstorms storms.

The fires began earlier this week in the province of Manitoba. The smoke will bring hazy skies and could potentially affect air quality in Chicago.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency does not expect this weekend's smoke infiltration to be as dangerous as June 2023, and there are no plans for an Air Pollution Action Day as was issued then.
