Debris lie by an apartment complex in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Monday, July 7, 2025 after Tropical Storm Chantal brought rain and flooding the previous day. The flooding set cars, metal dumpsters and other debris afloat the night of July 6, 2025.

Central Texas was ravaged by floods over the July 4th weekend leading to deaths, including children at Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp.

More than an entire summer's worth of rain fell in some spots in just a few hours, quickly overwhelmed dry soils and created significant flash flooding.
