Ford is recalling nearly half a million older Explorer models because part of the door trim can detach while driving and cause a dangerous road hazard, U.S. auto safety regulators said Wednesday.

Ford is recalling 492,145 Explorers because of an issue that may cause the B-pillar trim to fly off while driving. The recall applies to certain Explorers from the 2016 to 2017 model years. According to recall documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,

Ford is recalling Explorer SUVs because their door trim may come loose and fall off. If the trim falls off, the debris could cause a crash or injuries.
