The US-brokered ceasefire agreement will not go anywhere near addressing the fundamental grievances fueling the decades-long dispute over the status of Muslim-majority Kashmir.

On Monday evening, US President Donald Trump made another big claim that there could have been a bad nuclear war and they stopped it. “Millions of people could have been killed.” Additionally, Trump cited "trade" as the motivator behind both the countries agreeing to stop.

The military operations chiefs of India and Pakistan will discuss on Monday the next steps for the nuclear-armed neighbours after a ceasefire returns calm to the border, following their fiercest fighting in nearly three decades.

A ceasefire agreed between India and Pakistan appears to be holding, with both sides stressing their commitment to the surprise truce which halted the worst fighting in decades between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
