The New York Jets' defense is about to receive a major boost as Pro Bowl edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II was activated off the physically unable to perform list Sunday following his recovery from an Achilles tear.

Jermaine Johnson is officially back. The edge rusher was activated from the active/physically unable to perform list (PUP) on Sunday by the New York Jets. It comes 11 months after he tore his Achilles at the start of last season: Johnson, 26, earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 but was injured in Week 2 last year.

Defensive end Jermaine Johnson has come off the physically unable to perform list. Johnson began training camp on the PUP list as he recovered from a torn Achilles tendon suffered in last season’s Week 2 win over the Titans.
