A judge in Michigan on Monday rejected an effort by the Republican Party to block some Americans who are living overseas from voting in the battleground state.

Both cases targeted people who have never lived in the state but were born overseas to parents who were residents of the state. The Michigan case also targeted the spouses of military and overseas voters.

Judge Sima Patel ruled the effort was mounted too close to Election Day, calling it an "11th hour attempt to disenfranchise" voters.

State judges in Michigan and North Carolina on Monday rejected the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) separate challenges to certain overseas ballots in the key swing states. The RNC alleged the two states were improperly accepting overseas ballots from people who never lived in their jurisdictions.
