With the Real ID enforcement deadline two months away, Americans are wondering if they still need to get the identification documents. TSA and DHS say yes.

Starting May 7, U.S. travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant license or another approved form of identification to board domestic flights and enter certain federal facilities. While enforcement may roll out gradually, officials urge people to check if their current ID meets the requirements.

Originally, the law mandated the switch to REAL IDs by 2008, but that date has been pushed back year after year. Now the deadline is only a few weeks away.

The law means certain federal agencies, like the Transportation Security Administration or the Department of Homeland Security, won’t be allowed to accept state-issued forms of identification that don't include a Real ID seal.
