AUSTIN, Texas — A day after winning their first NCAA regional game in program history, UTSA took on No. 1 Texas Longhorns in Austin. The Longhorns got out to an early lead before UTSA tied the game with a sac fly in the second.

UTSA senior center fielder Mason Lytle went on to win AAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors after finishing the regular season leading The American in runs scored (67), hits (86), and doubles (20) and second in hitting (.371) and runs batted in (62). In center field, Lytle recorded six outfield assists.

The Longhorns (43-12) play the winner of a game between UTSA and Kansas on Saturday. The Huskies (32-24) meet the loser in an elimination game.

The Longhorns have dominated when hosting, owning an 87-22 mark in regional games held in Austin. Texas has strong postseason history, making 38 appearances in the College World Series. To add to their CWS list, the Longhorns will have to advance past their regionals and super regionals.

Ten weeks after it left Austin with a midweek win, UTSA topped the Texas baseball team in a game with bigger stakes. UTSA scored seven runs during the fifth and sixth innings of a 9-7 victory over Texas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday night.
