The death toll from Typhoon Fung-wong in the Philippines climbed to 27 as the storm approaches Taiwan, local media reported Wednesday. Deaths were reported in 10 provinces, but most of the fatalities were recorded in the Cordillera Administrative Region, according to local media outlet the Inquirer.

Typhoon Fung-wong made landfall on the main island of Luzon, prompting the evacuation of more than one million people, just days after an earlier storm killed over 200.

Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-Wong) has further intensified as it moves east of Eastern Visayas, the weather bureau said Saturday. In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the center of Uwan
