William Scharf, a former personal lawyer to Trump who now serves as the White House staff secretary, was quietly appointed in July as chair of the National Capital Planning Commission, the agency responsible for overseeing construction and major renovations to government buildings across Washington.

A person has been taken into custody after a vehicle was driven into a section of the White House perimeter. Secret Service officers said the suspect, who has not been named, rammed into the estate’s vehicle gate near the corner of 17th and E Streets.

A person was arrested late Tuesday after ramming a vehicle into a Secret Service security checkpoint a few hundred feet from the White House, officials said.
