CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - Just in time for the holidays, Metro Richmond Zoo welcomed a baby pygmy hippo. The baby arrived at 4:50 p.m. Dec. 9 after a 7-month gestation, the zoo says on its website.

The Metro Richmond Zoo, the only place in Virginia to see hippos, said that pygmy hippos are an endangered West African species with less than 2,500 mature hippos remaining in the wild.
