A federal court's decision to bar Texas from using new electoral maps is a blow to President Trump's efforts to preserve Republican control of the House and of the 2026 midterms.

Voters in Texas' 18th Congressional District now face two elections under two different maps after the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the state's mid-decade redistricting plan.

The Supreme Court ruled that Texas can redraw its electoral map to benefit Republicans. Last month a lower court struck down the state’s gerrymandering attempt, finding that it discriminated against black and Latino voters.
