Elendil is played by actor Lloyd Owen in The Lord of the Rings prequel. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, the character will play a pivotal role in The Rings of Power.

Elendil is Isildur’s father, making him an ancestor of The Lord of the Rings’ Aragorn. Elendil and Isildur’s storylines could set up Aragorn’s arc in The Lord of the Rings.

Elendil will walk away from Númenor’s downfall to go on to found Arnor and Gondor, while it seems that Miriel very much goes down with the proverbial ship.

Elendil’s larger story is quintessential Tolkien, though. In his world, heroes are made, as much as they are born, and greatness is a burden long before it ever leads to glory.

But loyal and dashing Elendil casts a quite a few smoldering glances her way, glances his son Isildur (Maxim Baldry) is starting to emulate, with more naiveté and stars in his eyes.

But Elendil’s son will pick up both his father’s mantle and a part of Narsil to cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand, something The Rings of Power will surely depict with great care.

Elendil leads the Last Alliance of Men and Elves alongside High-King Gil-galad against the Dark Lord Sauron, and in their defeat of the villain, Elendil is killed and succeeded by his son, Isildur.
