Passengers at Newark Liberty International Airport have suffered delays of up to five hours due to runway work, equipment outages, and staff shortages.

The Federal Aviation Administration said on Tuesday it would require flight cuts at Newark, one of the main airports serving New York City, after it met with U.S. airlines to address congestion issues following a series of major disruptions.

The FAA is capping arrivals at Newark Airport to 28 per hour starting October 2025 to ease congestion, improve efficiency, and support ongoing runway upgrades.
