Brian Callahan becomes first NFL head coach fired this season and others are on the hot seat
Brian Callahan is the first NFL head coach to be fired this season and chances are he'll have some company in the unemployment line in the not-too-distant future. Last year, three head coaches were fired midseason.
One week after notching their first win of the season, the Titans suffered another lifeless loss on Sunday as their offense felt flat against the Raiders. With his job security in serious question, Tennessee head coach Brian Callahan called out his team and rookie quarterback Cam Ward.
The hot seat of NFL coaches has been heating up each week, will the Cleveland Browns pull the trigger soon? See what Adam Schefter thinks.
Callahan joins Matt Eberflus (Chicago, 2024), Frank Reich (Carolina, 2023) and Urban Meyer ( Jaguars, 2021) in that group. Hue Jackson also was fired by Cleveland in 2018 and former Titans coach Jeff Fisher by the Rams in 2016 in the same situation.
The Tennessee Titans fired coach Brian Callahan, the team announced Monday, after just six games in this year's campaign, making him the first NFL coach fired this young season. The Titans are 1-5 having just lost, 20-10, to the Las Vegas Raiders, who broke a four-game losing streak with their triumph over Tennessee on Sunday.
Of the 241 NFL coaches who have coached at least 20 games or more since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970, Brian Callahan ranks 237th with a .174 winning percentage.
Mike Vrabel congratulated Brian Callahan when the Tennessee Titans hired him as Vrabel’s successor as head coach.
