A powerful legislative committee that oversees the rules created by Utah agencies and courts may get more Republican seats— and Democrats are on board.

The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee approved five nominees Tuesday, including for a senior role at the Department of Transportation. The panel cleared Ryan McCormack to become undersecretary for policy, where he would serve as a top adviser to Secretary Sean Duffy. McCormack is currently deputy chief of staff.
