Nippon Steel Corp. won conditional US approval for its $14.1 billion purchase of United States Steel Corp., capping a lengthy saga in a tie-up that will create one of the world’s largest steel companies.

Nippon Steel (OTCPK:NPSCY) has announced plans to “promptly” close its $14.9B deal to acquire US Steel (NYSE:X) after President Donald Trump approved the transaction, subject to the satisfaction of conditions related to national security concerns.

President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order paving the way for a Nippon Steel investment in U.S. Steel, so long as the Japanese company complies with a "national security agreement" submitted by the federal government.
