TSMC has kicked off mass production at its 1st fab in Japan, will break ground on its 2nd fab in Japan by Q1 2025, online by the end of 2027.

TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, launched a semiconductor manufacturing business called JASM Inc. in Japan three years ago. It’s a joint venture with Sony Group Corp. and Denso Corp., a major auto parts supplier. TSMC broke ground on the Kumamoto fab in April 2022 and completed construction earlier this year.

TSMC's first wafer fab in Kumamoto, Japan, operated by its subsidiary Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM), has officially begun mass production, marking a significant milestone for the region's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
