Nicholas Carlo, 21, of Rancho Santa Fe, is competing as the first-ever heavyweight in Menlo College's new taekwondo program.
Martial arts students from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Canada competed in the 22nd annual Great Lakes Open Taekwondo championship. The day-long tournament took place at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center.
