An auto transport ship carrying hundreds of EVs and in total a few thousand cars was abandoned in the Pacific Ocean. The United States Coast Guard says in a press release it responded on the afternoon of June 4 to the situation,

A ship carrying about 3,000 cars to Mexico was abandoned in the middle of the Pacific Ocean after catching fire Tuesday, highlighting a growing risk to the transportation of electric vehicles.

Zodiac Maritime, the ship's London-based operator, noted that smoke was first spotted on a deck carrying 800 electric vehicles. Once the blaze got out of control, the vessel's 22 crew members abandoned ship via lifeboat.
