A South Korean court upheld the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol on Friday, officially throwing him out of office over his botched imposition of martial law and setting the stage for a new presidential election.

South Korea's impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol has been ousted from office by the country's constitutional court. Yoon was impeached over his imposition of martial law on Dec. 3 in a surprise late-night broadcast where he declared martial law in South Korea,

The ruling will determine Mr Yoon’s political fate, but it does not mean the turmoil caused by his short-lived imposition of martial law is over.
