China finished constructing Tiangong in 2022. The current crew, which arrived aboard the Shenzhou 16 spacecraft on May 30, is the fifth astronaut mission to visit the orbital outpost.
Tiangong is smaller than the ISS, in overall dimensions measuring about one-fifth as large. Its total mass is approximately 77 tons (69,900 kg).
Tiangong, which means "Heavenly Palace" in Chinese, was built by the Chinese Manned Space Agency (CMSA) and provides a platform for scientific research for countries not involved in the ISS program.
