Researchers are studying why the energy factories are moving between cells and whether the process can be harnessed to treat cancer and other diseases.

A research team led by Indiana University School of Medicine physician scientists has made significant progress in mapping kidney cells that may one day allow for more accurate disease diagnosis.

They are coaxing clusters of stem cells – programmable cells that can transform into many different specialized cell types – to form laboratory-grown structures that resemble human embryos.
