RALEIGH, N.C. -- Mikko Rantanen scored his first goal for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 3-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks at Lenovo Center on Thursday.

For the last time in January, the Carolina Hurricanes played a game, and this one was against the Chicago Blackhawks for the second time in 10 days. Their last meeting was back on Jan.

The Finnish winger, obtained in mega trade with the Colorado Avalanche, earned his first goal as a Hurricane, while fellow newcomer Taylor Hall was a late scratch with an illness.

The Chicago Blackhawks did not play a pretty game, taking on a Carolina Hurricanes team down a player for the night. The effort was there, even when the decision-making wasn’t. Ultimately, the talent gap was too big to overcome in a hard-fought 3-2 loss in Raleigh.

The Carolina Hurricanes will look to earn points in a sixth consecutive game as they host the Chicago Blackhawks (16-29-5). The Canes are coming off of a 4-0 shutout victory over the New York Rangers and tonight will also be the first home games for Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall with their new club.

The New York Islanders (20-20-7) host the Carolina Hurricanes (30-16-3) tonight in UBS Arena just after 7:30. Tony DeAngelo, signed yesterday and clearing waivers today, will make his Islanders debut according to Islanders’ Head Coach Patrick Roy.

The Carolina Hurricanes will take on the New York Islanders (19-20-7) tonight with what will be a very new looking lineup. The Canes made a huge splash last night, landing both Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall for Martin Necas and Jack Drury in a three-team trade.
