Centre Nico Hischier has been placed on injury reserve retroactive to Jan. 25 after experiencing the receiving end of a Nick Suzuki cross-check, the team announced Thursday. The injury is undisclosed and a timeline for his return hasn't been released.

Some roster management is making way for a young prospect to return to the NHL. On Thursday, the New Jersey Devils announced that they have played forward Nico Hischier on injured reserve.

The Devils have placed captain Nico Hischier on the Injured Reserve list retroactively to Jan. 25 and recalled defenseman Simon Nemec from Utica of the American Hockey League. Hischier, 26, suffered an undisclosed injury late in the second period at Montreal on Jan.
