Cunningham grabbed a lot of headlines after being ejected for a hard foul on the Connecticut Sun's Jacy Sheldon late in a June game. Sheldon had been guarding Clark closely earlier in the game and there were some tense moments between the two. Cunningham distributed what she deemed her own brand of justice.
In the fourth quarter, Cunningham dragged Connecticut’s Jacy Sheldon to the ground, widely seen as payback for Sheldon’s earlier foul on Clark in the third.
The last time the Indiana Fever played the Connecticut Sun, Sophie Cunningham was ejected in the dying moments of the game after being assessed a Flagrant foul 2 on Jacy Sheldon. Cunningham appeared to have retaliated on behalf of Caitlin Clark, who got poked in the eye by Sheldon earlier in the game.
