Lorde attended her first Met Gala in four years Monday (May 5), but she wasn’t just there for fun. According to the pop star, she also used the event to tease something coming in the future, revealing that the look she wore on the red carpet is an “Easter egg” that also happens to express how she’s feeling in terms of her gender identity.

Lorde has been in full album prep mode lately, and her appearance at the Met Gala 2025 was no exception. In an interview with Emma Chamberlain, Lorde explained that her outfit was a hint at the contents of her upcoming album,

"To me it really represents where I'm at gender-wise. I feel like a man and a woman," Lorde said of her custom Thom Browne creation.
