Hall of Famer and Chicago Cubs legend Ryne “Ryno” Sandberg died in hospice care Monday following complications in his ongoing battle with prostate cancer. The news comes after Sandberg announced his prostate cancer had relapsed and spread throughout his body in December 2024.

Counsell said once a week he and bench coach Ryan Flaherty will wonder out loud how Sandberg hit 13 triples at Wrigley Field in 1984. It was a franchise record, according to MLB.com, in a season when he tallied a league-leading 19 total.
