Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) promised to veto tax relief legislation spearheaded by Florida Republican House Speaker Daniel Perez as a battle of wills between the two men plays out in the public eye yet again.

DeSantis argued Wednesday that a House plan to reduce the sales-tax rate is something "nobody is asking for" and would "effectively kill any opportunity to do property-tax reform."

Last week, Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez, R-Miami, and Senate President Ben Albritton, R-Wauchula, announced they had agreed to a budget framework that included billions in new tax cuts. The governor says it would permanently lower the state’s sales tax by 0.25% — from 6% to 5.75%.
