Areas of western North Carolina still in recovery mode due to the deadly destruction caused by Hurricane Helene last year were again on alert for flash flooding as a potent storm system brought rounds of torrential rain and thunderstorms to communities across the Southeast and mid-Atlantic.

Western North Carolina is again being targeted by hazardous rainfall that forecasters say is expected to lead to its “first noteworthy flood threat” since last September’s deadly Hurricane Helene.

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Tennessee, felt as far as Atlanta and western North Carolina, with no significant damage reported.
