Toronto forward Max Pacioretty has been ruled out for the Maple Leafs' game Monday night against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning because of an upper-body injury. Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube said after Pacioretty missed practice on Monday morning that the 17-year veteran won't play and his status for returning is day-to-day.
The 20-year-old centered the Maple Leafs' third line with Max Domi and Nick Robertson on his wings. Minten was recalled from the Marlies on Thursday after John Tavares went down with an injury at practice. Before Toronto's morning skate got underway, a few of the team's injured players were seen on the ice.
To fill the veteran winger’s roster spot, the Leafs called up 22-year-old forward Jacob Quillan from the Marlies, who has 15 points in 35 games. Pacioretty missed Monday’s game against Tampa Bay and was not going to play against the Blue Jackets, head coach Craig Berube said on Monday.
The Maple Leafs have placed Max Pacioretty on injured reserve and might be giving Toronto Marlies forward Jacob Quillan the opportunity of a lifetime. In the process of scoring seven unanswered goals on Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens,

Pacioretty got hit in the head by the puck in Toronto's 7-3 win over Montreal on Saturday. He stayed in the game, finishing with three shots on goal and four hits in 10:19 of ice time. Based on the morning skate, Fraser Minten and Connor Dewar will replace Pacioretty and Ryan Reaves, a healthy scratch, in Monday's lineup.
Max Pacioretty will not be in the lineup when the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs faced a tough night on multiple fronts, suffering a 5–1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday and seeing key forward Matthew Knies exit the game with an upper-body injury. The injury occurred late in the second period when Knies delivered a hit on Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko but got the worst of it.
Kirill Kaprizov and Jared Spurgeon could each return to the lineup for the Wild against the Utah Hockey Club on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; HULU, ESPN+). Each took part in line rushes at practice on Wednesday, and coach John Hynes said he is "cautiously optimistic" that they would play.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed veteran forward Max Pacioretty on the injured reserve list, retroactive to Jan. 18. That’s why the Leafs had to make a move and therefore recalled Jacob Quillan from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies in a corresponding move.
