The NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center says a solar storm could bring the Northern Lights to the Lower Hudson Valley on New Year's Eve. But with a high chance of rain in the evening, the possibility of seeing the phenomenon could be rare.

The northern part of the country could see pink and red streaks in the skies this week, just in time for New Year’s Eve, according to NOAA.

The daily aurora forecast reveals parts of Upstate New York may see a colorful display of northern lights if skies are clear, mostly along the fringes of the North Country and the shores of Lake Ontario.
