In December, the FDA declared that shortages of treatments Zepbound and Mounjaro from another drugmaker, Eli Lilly and Co., also had been resolved. Zepbound is approved to treat obesity and Mounjaro is approved for diabetes. They use the same active ingredient, tirzepatide.

About a dozen drugmakers are developing new weight-loss treatments aimed at preserving muscle, and industry analysts, clinical trial experts and doctors say they may also need to demonstrate additional health benefits beyond the numbers on a scale to get approved.

The shortage of Novo Nordisk’s (NVO) blockbuster diabetes and weight-loss drugs is officially over, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

A bipartisan group of U.S. state and territory attorneys general is pressing the FDA to take prompt action against those threatening public health by marketing counterfeit forms of branded weight loss medications developed by Novo Nordisk (NVO) and Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY).
