US judge denies injunction, restricting copies of Lilly weight-loss drug
A U.S. federal judge has refused to allow compounding pharmacies to keep making copies of Eli Lilly's popular weight-loss and diabetes drugs Zepbound and Mounjaro in the United States.

Compounding pharmacies will have to stop producing copycats of tirzepatide, the active ingredient in the blockbuster weight loss drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound, in a matter of days. That’s because a federal judge has ruled that compounding pharmacies can’t keep making copies of the drug now that it’s no longer in shortage.

Compound versions of some weight loss drugs to be restricted
Zepbound contains the same active ingredient, tirzepatide, as Mounjaro, which is also made by Lilly and is FDA-approved to treat Type 2 diabetes. Some doctors also prescribe Mounjaro "off-label" for weight loss, as is permissible by the FDA.
