President Donald Trump officially inserted himself into the college sports conversation on Thursday by issuing his first major executive order related to college sports. Titled "Saving College Sports," the order promises sweeping and binding changes to help tame the wild college athletics landscape.

Any policies that come from an executive order can either be challenged in court and reversed by the next administration, which means college sports continues to operate under a blanket of uncertainty when it comes to defining the relationship between schools and athletes. That’s exactly what college sports leaders are trying to stop.

Trump released the executive order amid a turbulent time in college athletics. The House settlement went into effect July 1 to attempt to provide a path forward with revenue sharing, but plenty remains unanswered to where many in the sport have argued the importance of congressional action and help from Washington.
