Close to a month after a Brightline train collided with a Delray Beach Fire Rescue truck, the city’s police department has launched an internal investigation into whether officers properly handled the June 2023 off-duty car crash that had led to a suspended license for its fire truck driver.

Police Chief Russ Mager says the integrity of their investigations is paramount, "especially when they involve public safety personnel."

Years of positive work evaluations for a Delray fire truck driver preceded a Dec. 28 crash with a Brightline train where a $1 million ladder truck was destroyed. The violent crash has resulted in
