Franklin County officials gave an update on the Wades Gap fire that first started on Wednesday. A large fire in the Calloway area has burned more than 400 acres. The fire was originally reported in the Wades Gap and Webster Corner Road area around 1 p.

Crews are currently on the scene of two brush fires in Franklin County. The first fire is at the intersection of Wades Gap and Webster Corner Road, the Department of Fire Safety has been sent to the location of a fire that 10 News has been told is spreading.

While the flames are no more, NC forestry crews are continuing to monitor the area to make sure there are no remaining embers.

On Rt. 726 in the County of Franklin, in the vicinity of Dillons Mill Rd; Rt. 643N/S (Franklin County), motorists can expect delays due to a brush fire. All north lanes are closed. All south lanes are closed. Wades Gap Road, Route 726, is closed between Dillons Mill Rd, Route 643, and Naff Road, Route 613, due to a brush fire.

Franklin County, VA – The nearly 600-acre fire in Franklin County is now completely contained on the western front. The eastern front is around seventy percent contained. The remaining 30% is controlled burning by the Department of Forestry. Monte Vista Church of the Brethrencontained has been the center of operations for first responders.
