Animal Services officials said that with budget cuts, "euthanasia will increase dramatically." But City officials say there is money in the city's unappropriated budget to prevent the cuts.

Since budget planning began, layoffs have been called "inevitable" with 3,500 positions on the chopping block. The final affected workforce number announced Monday included 1,647 filled position layoffs,

The layoffs would occur across a range of departments and affect city services. The proposal would also eliminate a number of vacant positions.
