Liam Payne's ex, singer Cheryl, has spoken following the news of the former One Direction singer's death. Payne died on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from a fall in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Local police said Payne was declared dead on the spot after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.

Liam Payne's former partner, pop singer Cheryl, joined an outpouring of grief on Friday over the death of the One Direction band member, calling for restraint in coverage to protect his family during an "indescribably painful time".

Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, formerly of pop group One Direction, have released a joint statement concerning the death of their bandmate Liam Payne.

"He called my mom [and said], 'I think I'm not gonna be around much longer,'" Maya Henry said of Payne during an appearance on podcast "The Internet Is Dead."
