Big Bear Valley, set inside the San Bernardino National Forest, is host to amazing biodiversity. It contains 3 very specialized plant habitats and over 1,600 plant species. That equates to 1/3 of the flora species in all of California being hosted in only 1% of the geographical area of the state.

The first bald eagle chick ever hatched in Big Bear Valley was discovered. (Forest Service historical record searches confirmed that no active bald eagle nests had ever been recorded in Big Bear Valey.) The parents were called Ricky and Lucy by the Forest Service.

Eagle Update Stories - Friends of Big Bear Valley
With summer season fast approaching, we are seeing boats on the lake and hearing many nesting birds announcing their territory on our cameras. During the summer, Big Bear Valley welcomes many visitors who enjoy hiking, birding, fishing, kayaking and other adventures.
We have done many presentations about our beautiful bald eagles and other special species in our valley, for classrooms, environmental organizations, service groups and others. Thanks to a kick-start donation by a couple
