According to DigiKam's documentation it is highly discouraged to directly use the db-files on a remote drive. The idea: before using DigiKam, the remote drive is synced to a local folder.

I have a server running photoprism, and I sync the originals folder with a folder on my laptop using syncthing. I use this as both a backup and as a way of library management - picture rotation, tagging etc. which I do with DigiKam.

I'm using DigiKam Beta 7 version and it is working really good! Right click an album and scan for faces. After it finishes, click the face tab on the RHS and then do it the same way as you do in Picasa, eg from the unknown faces simply click them and add names.

Jan 14, 2024 · In Lightroom, I have the option to view all my.lictures at once, independently from their folder. Just all pictures visible in one view (with scrolling of course, that is). In digiKam, I can only view the pictures of a certain folder. My problem arises if e. g. I'm on a trip and take 1 picture on the first, 3 on the second and 2 on the third.

Looking forward to seeing your darktable / digikam setup. I am at 58k photos/videos, using mariadb as a db for digikam on nvme and external slowish (150mb/s) hdd for actual files. Digikam is struggggling with big 60mp files, crashes a lot too, so take that into account. I am glad it doesn't seem to mess up files and is quick to restart.
