A long-abandoned stretch of canal on the Cumbria Lancashire border has got a motorboat running on it for the first time in at least fifty years. Whimbrell herself is fifty years old – built by Shepherds on the shores of Windermere in 1965. For some reason her engine is far older – a 1937 Stuart Turner marine two stroke engine. She was rescued by Colin Ogden, a plumber from Burnley, who spent four years restoring the vessel and engine. Now he’s running her along the three miles of the Lancaster-K
