Laying Out a Segmented Turning

Odd jobs take lots more time than just the turning. This one off chair spindle is shown complete at real speed. However the turning time is a lot less than preparation I cut the blank, set the lathe up, sort out the size gauges and study the shape closely before starting. The turning is also slower than if you were doing a run as you don’t get into rhythm. Still at least the customer does the distressing and polishing to match so minimum order charge applies and everyone is happy. | The woodturn

Sorry the odd angle of my phone gives a distorted shape. This is on of a batch of 50mm dia Walnut balls with 12mm dia peg. Tuning a sphere shape without jigs looks a lot easier than it is.
