So you want big beautiful soft light but you don't own a gigantic softbox? Here's a quick hack to get that cinematic soft light on a budget (but you'll need some space). Add another layer of diffusion (thin bed sheet, silk diffusion sheet, etc) between your light source and your subject. It will eat up some amount of light, so you'll need to adjust your lights back up to compensate.
