The Corvus was a Roman naval boarding device used during the First Punic War (264–241 BCE). It consisted of a wooden bridge approximately 36 feet long, mounted on a pole at the prow of a warship. Operated by a pulley system, it could be swung onto an enemy vessel, where a heavy, downward-facing spike would pierce the opponent's deck, locking the two ships together. This innovation was first used with decisive effect at the Battle of Mylae in 260 BCE, transforming sea battles into close-quarters

Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan has been conducting boarding exercises off the coast of Plymouth. A Wildcat helicopter from Yeovilton-based 815 Naval Air Squadron has joined the Portsmouth ship as she heads to the Mediterranean. The exercise, which sees Duncan’s Royal Marines and Royal Navy boarding crews work with the Wildcat to board and search vessels, is in preparation for its work with French aircraft carrier FS Charles de Gaulle, as part of their Carrier Strike Group deployment. 🔗 http://ow.

The Russian ministry of defence has released footage of its navy boarding a cargo ship under the flag of Palau in the Black sea saying it didn’t stop when they asked it to.
